Kalanni takes a break from buttkickery to relax in the warm evening sun.

I had this idea in mind for a while, but could never really get it out too well. I got a chance to try out a lot of new techniques on this, including hatching style shading, which i think I've fallen in love with. Mucho thanks to ~iDNAR for steering me in the right direction with faces, and I also gave SNK's process of detailing a shot. Everything flowed quite well, i think.

The idea here was to have a fairly high contrast pic that would showcase everything I'd been working on for the past two years; material definition, shading, dynamic pose, expression, and overall feeling presented by the drawing. how many materials do you see in this picture ^_^. Kalanni has such a fun costume...

Enjoy!

Photoshop, about 20 hours. (it would have been faster but i had to figure otu my style of hatch shading)

Very nice work.
The hips and legs looka little awkward but everything else looks really great. The texture and shading on the picture as a whole is excellent, really great work!
thanks. yeah, her right leg i just couldn't seem to find the right place for, but i think its is more or less in the right position. i had a lot of fun with the texturing and really surprised myself with the results.

I like the little chains, they look so detailed. And the distinction between all the different materials is portayed very nicely. I'm impressed that this lovely pencil/graphite shading effect can be achieved in photoshop, I've never tried it before. Nice job :)
I always get problems with legs in that position - it's hard to get everything right, especially as it involves foreshortening.
Great work though, an impressive jump in quality.
yeah i liked the effect too. if you look close enough, it's hatch shading. this was my first try shading like that, and i really like how easy and convincing it can be :)
